Tired of buy pre-packaged seasoning mixes?

I don’t know about you, but I like to know what I am putting in my food and not having to worry about hidden ingredients, additives, preservatives, etc., so I set out to make my own seasoning mixes.  Many packaged mixes contain preservatives and gluten!  These are nothing but spices!

Onion soup mix

  1. 3 TBSP dried onion flakes
  2. 2 TBSP granulated beef bouillon
  3. 1 tsp onion powder
  4. 1 tsp parsley
  5. 1/2 tsp black pepper

This mix makes enough to replace 1 packet of soup mix

**To make onion dip, simply combine the above seasonings with 8 ounces of sour cream and chill for 2 hours.

***I use this mixture to also season my pork/beef roasts in the crock pot/slow cooker and it gives the meat and vegetables a great flavor.  Pus you can make a delicious gravy out of the drippings!  Simply place roast and desired vegetables in the slow cooker and add about 2 cups water (do not cover entirely with water) and 2 bouillon cubes.  Cook on high for 4 hours or low for 8 hours.  To make gravy from the drippings add about 1/2 TBSP corn starch to 4 TBSP cold water and mix well.  Then put about 1 cup of the drippings into a small sauce pan and add the corn starch slurry.  Bring to a boil, stirring constantly, until desired thickness and serve.

Taco seasoning

  1.  2 TBSP Chili powder
  2. 1 TBSP salt
  3. 1 TBSP cumin
  4. 2 tsp paprika
  5. 1 tsp black pepper
  6. 1 tsp garlic powder

**This recipe makes enough for 2 pounds of taco meat.

Ranch dressing mix

  1. 2 TBSP parsley, dried
  2. 1 TBSP chives, dried
  3. 1-1/2 tsp dill, dried
  4. 2 tsp garlic powder
  5. 2 tsp onion powder
  6. 1 tsp onion flakes, dried
  7. 1 tsp black pepper
  8. 1 tsp salt

To make Ranch Dip: 

  1. Mix 2-1/2 tsp of the mix with 1/2 C mayonnaise and 1 C sour cream
  2. Chill for 2 hours and allow flavors to mix.

To make Ranch dressing:

  1. Mix 3 tsp of the mix with 1/2 C buttermilk, 1 C mayonnaise, and 2 TBSP milk.
  2. Blend well and serve immediately or chill.  Use within 3 days.

Chili seasoning mix:

  1. 1 TBSP brown sugar
  2. 1 TBSP salt
  3. 1 TBSP paprika
  4. 2 tsp cumin (i prefer 3 for a more zesty flavor)
  5. 2 tsp garlic powder
  6. 2 tsp oregano
  7. 1 tsp onion powder
  8. 1 tsp black pepper
  9. 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes (1 tsp if you like it spicy)
  10. 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper

This recipe prepares enough to replace 1 packet of seasoning mix.
